Crowborough Sites

Crowborough has 2 sites worthy of the title of Local Nature Reserve, or LNR, but otherwise it is a matter of making sites, such as housing estates, for birding references.  Below is a map of Crowborough, with all the major 'sites' featured.

This is not an extensive map, and over the coming years new sites may need to be added, but for now it covers most areas where birding appears to be the best.

The Ghyll and the Country Park have both been deemed to be large enough to receive the status of Local Nature Reserve, and both are open to the public. The Beeches Estate is maybe not so accessible, as it is a housing estate after all, but standing on a street corner which no houses overlook could be alright. The Pocket Park NR is still in the process of being created, but by spring/summer 2018 it should be open to public access. It is currently viewable from the Poundfield footpath up by Barnefields. Pellings Woods has a few public footpaths through it, but please stick to those marked on a OS map. Goldsmith's and Wolfe's Recreation Grounds are both open to the public also, and have their own relatively large car parks. The Bluebell Wood, near Waitrose, and obviously the Green, are also open to the public, the former having footpaths through it., whilst the Common is very similar to the Green. Pennybridge Lake is looked after by the Crowborough and District Anglers Association, but public footpaths run near there, and there is a car park. The Crowborough Cross is best walked to, as there is little car parking except for in supermarket car parks (you have to shop in LIDL to park in their car park), and St. John's has an 'Ashdown Forest' type car park.
